איתמר זינגר

איתמר זינגר (26 בנובמבר 1946 - 19 בספטמבר 2012) היה פרופסור אמריטוס בחוג לארכאולוגיה ותרבויות המזרח הקדום באוניברסיטת תל אביב, חיתיתולוג, וחתן פרס א.מ.ת בתחום מדעי הרוח, חקר המזרח התיכון הקדום לשנת 2010.

ביוגרפיה

איתמר זינגר נולד בדז', רומניה, להורים ניצולי שואה. אביו זולטן עמד בראש התנועה הציונית בקהילה ונאסר בגלל פעילותו עם עלות הקומוניסטים לשלטון. בגיל 5 עבר עם משפחתו לקלוז', בירת טרנסילבניה.

בגיל 12 עלתה המשפחה לארץ והתגוררה בחולון. למד בתיכון עירוני חדש במגמה סוציולוגית והתגייס לצה"ל במסגרת העתודה האקדמית. בשנים 1973-1969 שרת בחיל האוויר כמפענח תצלומי אוויר והשתחרר בדרגת סרן. בשנים 1968-1965 למד תואר ראשון באוניברסיטה העברית בחוגים לארכאולוגיה וגאוגרפיה ובשנים 1973-1969 למד, במקביל לשרותו הצבאי, תואר שני באוניברסיטת תל אביב בחוג לארכאולוגיה ותרבויות המזרח הקדום. נושא עבודת המאסטר, בהדרכת פרופסור אהרון קמפינסקי, היה "היבטים גאוגרפיים של הבעיה הפרוטו-חתית".

ב-1973 החל לימודי חיתיתולוגיה עם פרופסור היינריך אוטן באוניברסיטת מרבורג בגרמניה והשלים את עבודת הדוקטור על "פסטיבל בית-השער" ב-1978. העבודה הוגשה בבית הספר למדעי היהדות של אוניברסיטת תל אביב, בהדרכת הפרופסורים היינריך אוטן ואנסון רייני. מ-1975 נמנה עם סגל החוג לארכאולוגיה ותרבויות המזרח הקדום באוניברסיטת תל אביב. לימד לסירוגין גם באוניברסיטה העברית, באוניברסיטת חיפה, באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון ובאוניברסיטת בר-אילן. ב-1996 נתמנה כפרופסור מן המניין. שהה בשבתונים כמרצה אורח בבי"ס ללימודי המזרח ואפריקה של אוניברסיטת לונדון, בסורבון ובקולג' דה פראנס בפריז, באוניברסיטת קיו בטוקיו, באוניברסיטת ניו-אנגלנד באוסטרליה, במכון המזרחני של אוניברסיטת שיקגו, באוניברסיטת פלורידה ובאוניברסיטת בואנוס איירס. ב-2008 פרש לגמלאות כפרופסור אמריטוס. בין תלמידיו נמנים פרופ' יורם כהן (אוניברסיטת תל אביב), ד"ר ג'ארד מילר (אוניברסיטת מינכן), ד"ר אמיר גילן (אוניברסיטת תל אביב) ד"ר יצחק פדר (אוניברסיטת בר-אילן) וד"ר שי גורדין (אוניברסיטת תל אביב).

מחקריו

מחקריו של איתמר זינגר עוסקים בתולדות ותרבויות אנטוליה והלבאנט באלף השני והראשון לפני הספירה.

ממצאים כתובים מישראל

זינגר ערך פרסום ראשוני וניתוח של כתובות שונות שנתגלו בחפירות בארץ, בהם מכתב מאוגרית[1], טביעת חותם חיתית[2] ושבר לוח בכתב פלשתי[3] שנתגלו בתל אפק, וחותמות חיתיים מתל אל-פרעה[4], תל נאמי[5] ותל מגידו.[6]

תולדות ארץ כנען

זינגר ערך מחקרים על השלטון המצרי בכנען בתקופת הברונזה המאוחרת[7] ועל התגבשות הישויות הלאומיות בארץ ישראל בראשית תקופת הברזל.[8] אחת המסקנות המרכזיות אליהן הגיע נוגעת למעמדה הבכיר של מגידו במערך האימפריאלי המצרי.

פלשתים וגויי-הים

התיישבות גויי הים בחופי ארץ-ישראל בראשית תקופת הברזל מציבה אתגר מדעי קשה בגלל מיעוט המקורות הכתובים. זינגר בחן את אלו במקביל לנתונים הארכאולוגיים העשירים מחפירות בארץ פלשת.[9] הוא זיהה לראשונה את ראשית ההתיישבות הפלשתית עם הקרמיקה המוכרת בשם "מונוכרומית" שנתגלתה באתריה הגדולים של פלשת.[10] הוא בחן את הארגון המדיני של ערי הפלשתים לאור המקורות המצריים והמסורות המקראיות.[11] זינגר דוחה את ייחוס המסורות המקראיות על הפלשתים לסוף ימי המלוכה, טענתם של מספר היסטוריונים, זאת על-סמך עיון במציאות הגיאו-פוליטית המשתקפת בהן.[12] מקורותיו התאולוגיים של דגון אלוקי הפלשתים נבחנו לאור המקורות הסוריים והמקראיים.[13]

תולדות סוריה בתקופת הברונזה

המרחב הסורי בתקופת הברונזה המאוחרת מוכר היטב מתוך מגוון מקורות חתיים, מצריים וסוריים (כתובות אוגרית ואמר). זינגר ערך עיון מקיף במקורות הכתובים למיניהם ובנתונים הארכאולוגיים, דבר שהניב את שחזור תולדותיהן של שתי ממלכות סוריות חשובות, אוגרית[14] ואמורו.[15] זינגר ערך עיון ביקורתי בשתי תעודות מאוגרית וזיהה התייחסות נדירה לשינוע מטילי נחושת מאוגרית לארץ לוכה שבמערב אנטוליה בשנותיה האחרונות של האימפריה החיתית.[16] הוא פרסם לראשונה טביעות חותם חיתיות[17] ומכתב כתוב חיתית[18] מהעיר אמר שעל הפרת התיכון.

היסטוריה חיתית ונאו-חיתית

מחקריו החיתיתולוגים של זינגר על תולדות החתים מכסים פרק זמן של כאלף שנה, למן תקופת המושבות האשוריות בראשית האלף השני לפנה"ס[19] ועד לממלכות הנאו-חיתיות ברבע הראשון של האלף הראשון לפנה"ס.[20] דגש מיוחד שם זינגר על תקופת האימפריה החיתית במאות 14-13 ולתהליכים שהביאו לקריסתה.[21] הסוגיות העיקריות בהן הוא דן לעומק הן: הרפורמה הדתית של מוותלי א' והעברת הבירה לתרחונתשה[22] ההפיכה הצבאית של חתושילי ג' והדחתו של מורשיליש השלישי,[23] השלטון החיתי בסוריה,[24] וקשרי חתי עם שאר המעצמות – מצרים,[25] אשור,[26] בבל[27] ואחייווה.[28]

לשונות ותרבויות אנטוליה

זינגר ערך מחקרים פילולוגיים בתחום הלשונות הקדומות של אנטוליה ודובריהן,[29] דיונים בסוגיות שונות הנוגעות לכלכלה ולחברה החיתית,[30] וסיכום מצב המחקר בשאלת החתים במקרא וההשפעות האנטוליות על התרבות הישראלית.[31]

דת ומיתולוגיה חיתית

זינגר ערך את המחקר הפילולוגי הראשון ששאף להקיף את כל חלקיו של טקסט המתאר חג חיתי, "פסטיבל בית-השער".[32] זהו עיבוד פילולוגי של תפילת מווטלי, היא התפילה החיתית הארוכה והשלמה ביותר,[33] וכן קובץ תרגומים של תפילות חיתיות שונות. מחקרים בסוגיות שונות על הדת החיתית, ובהן הפנתיאון,[34] דמות האל,[35] תפיסת החטא ועונשו[36] ותפיסת המוות.[37] מחקרים על הספרות והמיתולוגיה החיתית[38] וקשריה עם הספרות הסורו-כנענית.[39]

ספרו האחרון של זינגר, "החתים ותרבותם", הוא ספר מקיף על התרבות החיתית, שראה אור בהוצאת מוסד ביאליק בשנת 2009, הכולל תרגומים עבריים של טקסטים חיתיים שונים.
