פרופסור רונן אלדן (1980) הוא מתמטיקאי ופיזיקאי תאורטי ישראלי. אלדן הוא חוקר בכיר במכון ויצמן למדע. הוא בין מקבלי פרס בלווטניק לשנת 2022 למדענים צעירים.

נעורים והשכלה

רונן אלדן נולד בישראל בשנת 1980 לרחל ויורם אלדן. אלדן בילה את רוב ילדותו ברמת אביב. בשנת 2005, קיבל תואר ראשון מהאוניברסיטה הפתוחה וב-2006 הרחיב זאת לדיציפלינה בפיזיקה מאוניברסיטת תל אביב. בשנת 2013 קיבל אלדן את הדוקטורט שלו מאוניברסיטת תל אביב ולאחר מכן עשה פוסט-דוקטורט באוניברסיטת וושינגטון.

קריירה

במהלך לימודיו, עבד אלדן כמומחה לאבטחת מחשבים, כמתמטיקאי יישומי, וכראש צוות תכנות עבור צה"ל ובתעשייה. בשנת 2011, עבד כמתמחה בקבוצת התאוריה (Theory Group) של חברת מיקרוסופט.

ב-2015, הצטרף אלדן לסגל במחלקה למתמטיקה במכון ויצמן.

עבודתו של פרופסור רונן אלדן הובילה לפריצות דרך בפתרון השערות בתיאוריה המתמטית של תופעות במימד גבוה שיש להן השפעות עמוקות על תחומי הסטטיסטיקה, למידת מכונה ומדעי המחשב התאורטיים. המחקר שלו מקיף מספר תחומים של מתמטיקה, עם התמקדות בהסתברות ממדי גבוהה. אחת התרומות העיקריות של אלדן היא פיתוח מתודולוגיה חדשה המתבססת על קשר בלתי צפוי בין ניתוח מערכות ממדיות גבוהות וחשבון סטוכסטי, התיאוריה החוקרת את תנועתם של חלקיקים מתפזרים. יתרה מכך, קו המחקר היישומי שלו הוביל להבנה חדשה של המגבלות של רשתות עצביות בלמידת מכונה ואלגוריתם חדש לקבלת החלטות בבינה מלאכותית.

בשנת 2018 הוענק לאלדן פרס ארדש במתמטיקה.

בשנת 2022 זכה אלדן בפרס בלווטניק למדענים צעירים על תרומתו פורצת הדרך לנושא המתמטי של הסתברות ממדי גבוהה, העוסק במערך נתונים עם מספר רב של משתנים. לטכניקות שפיתח אלדן יש מגוון רחב של יישומים החל מסטטיסטיקה ועד למדעי המחשב.
