יאנקי דודל (מאנגלית: Yankee Doodle) הוא שיר עם בריטי/אמריקני שמקורו בתקופת מלחמת שבע השנים (1756–1763). בעת המודרנית הפך השיר להמנון פטריוטי אמריקני. הוא משמש כהמנון מדינת קונטיקט וכאות תחנות השידור של רשת השידור הממשלתית, קול אמריקה.

היסטוריה ומשמעויות

מקורו של השיר לא ברור. לפי המסורת השיר הושר בפי החיילים הבריטיים שנלחמו במלחמת הצרפתים והאינדיאנים, המקבילה למלחמת שבע השנים על אדמת אמריקה, כשיר גנאי למתיישבים האמריקאים שכונו "יאנקים". הלחן הוא ככל הנראה עממי ומבוסס על שיר ילדים. מילות השיר מיוחסות לרופא צבאי בריטי בשם ריצ'רד שקבורג (Richard Shuckburgh), שכתב אותו כדי לשעשע לוחמים אמריקאים שלחמו לצידו.

מקור המילה דודל בסקסונית תחתית (dödel), ומובנה "טיפש", "שוטה". "מקרוני" הוא סלנג ל"גנדרן", כך גם המילה דאנדי. ככל הנראה הרמז הוא שהיאנקים (המתיישבים האמריקאים) היו כל-כך פשוטים ולא מתוחכמים עד שסברו כביכול שעצם נעיצת הנוצה בכובע הופכת אותם לאופנתיים.

השיר הושמע באופרטה האמריקאית הראשונה "The Disappointment", שהועלתה ב-1767.
